PT Badak Natural Gas Liquefaction — Indonesia's largest LNG plant operator, serving Asia's energy needs for over 50 years.
PT Badak NGL is Indonesia's largest natural gas liquefaction company, located in Bontang, East Kalimantan.
The story of Badak LNG began with the discovery of natural gas reserves in two separate regions — Mobil Oil Indonesia discovered gas at the Arun Field in North Aceh in late 1971, while Huffco Inc. discovered gas at the Badak Field in East Kalimantan in early 1972. Both operated under Production Sharing Contracts with Pertamina.
At the time, LNG was still a relatively new concept worldwide, with only four liquefaction plants in operation globally. Nevertheless, Pertamina, Mobil Oil, and Huffco Inc. committed to building a large-scale export project that would ultimately establish Indonesia as the world's largest LNG exporter.
The journey of Badak LNG began with gas discoveries in two different regions and evolved into a global benchmark for the LNG industry.

On December 5, 1973, five Japanese companies signed a 20-year LNG purchase contract, marking the beginning of Indonesia's LNG export era to Asia.
The Badak LNG plant in Bontang was completed and began commercial operations. The first LNG cargo was successfully delivered to Japan, marking the dawn of Indonesia's LNG export industry.
Badak LNG expanded rapidly, adding production trains to reach a total of 8 active trains with a combined capacity of 22.5 million tonnes of LNG per year.
Badak LNG transformed into a Center of Excellence for international LNG facility management — achieving DNV Level 8 (first in Asia), PROPER Gold for 13 consecutive years, and ISO 50001.
